Burn. "I came all the way to this website and this page is boring." Yep, it's hard to get away from all the noise and flash, huh?
Burn. Sometimes I don’t want to be the light of the world.
Burn. Light in the darkness. Edge. Real. Speaking the truth. Our hearts are restless, but our bodies are tired.
Burn. Set on a lampstand for all to see? Hey, sometimes when I get knocked down I don’t know if I can climb back up to the top of the stand.
"Burn" is a one man presentation especially for the season of Advent. Designed for adults and mature teens, "Burn" blends the intimacy of personal storytelling, digital reflection*, world wide myth, and spiritual narratives to examine the call each of us has received to be a light to the world, even when we’d just rather hide it under a bushel.
What would happen in our lives if we stripped away the facade of "being a good Christian" and looked honestly at the struggles in the midst of job, money, lifestyle, parenting, relationships, schooling and more? What happens when we stop pretending that it’s so easy to follow the One? Can we learn to accept that even when worn down to the stub, the candles that are our lives can still illuminate the spaces we move in? Why should we even bother?
"Burn" is not your typical "church" presentation and would probably be rated PG-13 if it were a movie. The language is direct, honest and not "christian-ese." If your group is ready to search deeply through the struggle between dark and light, give and take, faith and doubt, action and apathy, then "Burn" is a great choice for your event. Please do not book "Burn" if young children will be present at your gathering. Sean offers a number of events that are less intense and more "family friendly" if that is your need. How can we help?
"Burn" is not for your church if "being nice" is more important than "being real." If your congregation spends more time griping about the skateboarders in your parking lot than they spend inviting them in, then "Burn" may not be for you. On the other hand, maybe it's exactly what your church needs.
"Burn" can be presented in a single 45 minute performance or day retreat. Your performance can include a discussion session afterwards as well. "Burn" can be presented for almost any size group in a variety of environments. Your location must include proper sound equipment, proper electrical systems and be able to achieve "black out" for the performance to be presented in its peak form.
